Adelaide Self Drive Itinerary

Adelaide is ideal to explore on foot, by car or on an organised walking tour.
Day 1 - AdelaideAdelaide Central Market (open Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays) is the largest food and produce market in Australia and is a great place to start your day. Guided tours with tastings and behind-the-scenes stories are available.
The National Wine Centre is a great introduction to the Australian wine industry and features interactive exhibitions, a tasting gallery and cafe.
Then head west through the Adelaide Botanic Garden back to North Terrace, home of South Australia’s grandest buildings and best collections. Enjoy the Art Gallery of South Australia, the South Australian Museum (with its extraordinary Australian Aboriginal Cultures Gallery), the State Library and the JamFactory Contemporary Craft & Design Centre.
The Migration Museum on Kintore Avenue and Tandanya - the National Aboriginal Cultural Institute on Grenfell Street are both nearby and well worth a visit.
Don’t miss the shopping on Rundle Mall (parallel to North Terrace), in particular the South Australian favourites of Haigh’s Chocolates, RM Williams and Jurlique.
Be sure to dine in one of Adelaide many ‘eat streets‘, such as Gouger, Rundle or Hutt.
Day 2 - AdelaideAdelaide has a glorious coastline.
Follow the signs to Port Adelaide, the maritime heart of South Australia. Its a community proud of its rich history, remarkable buildings and artistic life. You can take a Port Walk, enjoy a river cruise or kayaing tour to see local dolphins and shipwrecks or visit the SA Maritime Museum, National Railway Museum or Seahorse Farm.
For a late lunch head to Semaphore, a vibrant seaside village with interesting cafes and shops.
Drive south along the esplanade past Grange, Henley and West Beaches. Take a short detour inland and pick up a bargain at the Harbour Town outlet shops. Continue onto Adelaide’s favourite seaside suburb - Glenelg.
There’s great swimming and lots of cafes and shops to explore. Cruise with Temptation Sailing and swim with dolphins or take a jet boat ride.
Head back to the city via fashionable King William Road in Hyde Park, with its great selection of antique, fashion and homeware shops.
Day 3 - AdelaideThis morning explore North Adelaide on foot or in your car.
From the city head north past the River Torrens and Adelaide Oval - you take a tour of this much loved sporting mecca and view The Bradman Collection.
At Light’s Vision on Montefiore Hill, there are great views over the city and to the Hills. Wander the broad, leafy streets and admire the 19th century mansions, row cottages and villas. Enjoy O’Connell and Melbourne Streets with their excellent cafes, boutiques and shopping.
In the afternoon head east to the vibrant shopping streets of The Parade and Magill Road at Norwood - the second is highly regarded for its antique stores and design precinct.
In the late afternoon make your way to Penfolds Magill Estate in the footy hills at the top of The Parade. This pioneering winery is home to Australia’s most famous wine - Penfolds Grange. Take a twilight tour, enjoy a tasting and finish off with dinner in the award winning restaurant with stunning city views.
