South Australia's Unique Regions
South Australia boasts an extraordinary variety of places to see and experiences to enjoy. And the great thing is, they are all easily accessible from Adelaide!
No region is more than 5 hours drive from the capital, making it possible to combine a number of different regions, and experiences, to get a real taste of what South Australia has to offer in a 7 - 10 day holiday.
If time is short, stay around Adelaide and its neighbouring regions. The world famous wine and food regions of the Barossa, Clare Valley, Adelaide Hills and McLaren Vale are all within 1.5 hours drive, Kangaroo Island is regarded as one of the best places in Australia to see native wildlife in its natural habitat and a cruise on the Murray River will relax and inspire you.
If you have more time, definitely head further afield. The Eyre Peninsula and the Flinders Ranges & Outback are just 4 to 5 hours drive from Adelaide and offer some of the most spectacular scenery, Aboriginal culture and wildlife experiences in South Australia.
The Fleurieu Peninsula provides a mix of the good life, with beautiful beaches, art galleries, fine wine and food and a truly Mediterranean climate, while its neighbour the Limestone Coast is one of the world’s crayfish fishing capitals, in addition to its many natural wonders and famous ‘terra rosa’ soil of the Coonawarra wine region.
Explore South Australia’s regions on a self driving holiday.
