Mintaro Maze

South Australians are a friendly bunch, especially in the Clare Valley.

So you won’t find them encouraging you to get lost, unless it’s at the bamboozling Mintaro Maze!

This living hedge maze, consisting of over 800 conifers, features fountains, twists and turns to trick even the most committed explorer.

And when you do find your way out, there’s plenty more to enjoy, with a range of giant-sized games featuring local Mintaro slate.

A truly water-wise garden, the maze hasn’t been watered since the year 2000.

The maze gift shop has an eye-opening array of gifts, where you can browse or try your hand at puzzles and games. There’s a range of aromatherapy products made on site, plus a cup of freshly brewed coffee or tea is always available.

Mintaro village is always worth a visit in its own right.

Located just east of Clare, the entire village was declared a State Heritage Area in 1984 and is a great place to explore on foot.

You will discover stone churches, cottage gardens, an antique shop, a ruined flourmill and interesting cemeteries. There are also several wineries, a traditional Aussie pub, a cosy café and several quaint bed and breakfasts.
