Feel like a good drive? We mean golf, of course, though the Fleurieu Peninsula is also a terrific place for that other sort of driving holiday.

There are more than a dozen golf courses on the Peninsula, ranging from top rated courses with million dollar views to the fun of a mini-golf course.

Five of them are championship courses - Links Lady Bay, McCracken Country Club, the Victor Harbor Golf Club, the Fleurieu Golf Course at Mount Compass, and South Lakes.

There are golf courses that are perfect for happy hobby golfers to swing away, along with smaller but equally pleasant picnic courses.

• Links Lady Bay
This is a true St Andrews style sand based links course. Designed by Newton, Grant and Spencer, it has great views over the coast. The fully irrigated course features gently undulating couch fairways, classic bunkering, lakes and smooth and subtle bent grass greens. It demands the kind of shot making essential at Scottish and Irish links.

• McCracken Country Club
An outstanding links/lakes style 18 hole golf course designed to international championship standard. The challenging par 72 course features 74 bunkers and 14 lakes in a beautiful setting of natural water course and gentle slopes.

• Sunset Cove Golf & Country Club
This championship course has magnificent sea views and coastal cliffs. It’s near to Cape Jarvis where the ferry to Kangaroo Island departs. With excellent Penncross bent grass greens and fine Wintergreen couch fairways, the course is both scenic and challenging for golfers of all abilities.
