Murray River

Australia’s Murray River is one of the world’s legendary rivers.
In South Australia, it travels 640 kilometres from Renmark in the state’s north east to Goolwa on the Fleurieu Peninsula.
Ancient limestone cliffs, graceful River red gums, lush vineyards and citrus groves are hallmarks of the eastern section, while large tracts of native bush, towering ochre cliffs and historic towns characterise the lower regions.
Easily accessible, starting just one hour’s drive from Adelaide, there are many ways to explore the Murray River. From escorted cruises to being the skipper of your own houseboat, you will relax and re-charge as you glide along the river. Old-fashioned paddle steamers offer fully hosted river cruises of varying lengths, while canoe tours and small boats for hire will reveal all manner of river secrets.
If you prefer to remain on dry land, the Murray River region has plenty more to offer.
Introduce yourself to the smorgasbord of local produce on the Riverland Wine & Food Trail. From birdwatching and nocturnal wildlife tours, to wine tasting, golf, historic towns and significant Aboriginal art sites, the Murray River is the perfect place to do as much or as little as you like.
Mark Flanagan, Murray River local: “I’m really proud of our river, and to cruise it is one of the great Australian holiday experiences that everyone should have.“
