Murray River
The Murray River is Australia’s greatest river system. In South Australia, it travels 640 kilometres from Renmark in the state’s north east to Goolwa on the Fleurieu Peninsula.
Ancient limestone cliffs, graceful River red gums, lush vineyards and citrus groves are hallmarks of the northern section, while large tracts of native bush, towering ochre cliffs and historic towns characterise the lower regions.
Just over one hour’s drive from Adelaide at its closest point, South Australia’s Murray River is the perfect place to escape. Whether on an escorted cruise or captaining your own houseboat, you will relax and recharge as you glide along the river.
Not surprisingly, the river is renowned for water-based activities such as fishing, houseboating, swimming, canoeing, water-skiing and eco-cruising. But there’s much more to the Murray than water – award-winning cellar doors, significant Aboriginal rock art sites, internationally-recognised conservation parks, historic townships and abundant native wildlife.
